December Fun!

Hi Parents and Teachers!
Whew!  The past two months have felt like a whirlwind, between arctic cold, no internet in our classroom, the norovirus, losing a phone due to water damage, and holidays time has REALLY flown by :)  We were busy in December learning all about Christmas traditions throughout the world, writing for a purpose, using patterns to help us read, working on our "Chunky Monkey" reading strategy, and beginning to practice time and money skills.  Here are a few pictures of all of our "busyness"

Christmas crafts from around the world!!

Gingerbread and Christmas themed centers.

Coloring our Christmas around the world maps.

Riding the Polar Express in our jammies!

Making Christmas trees to practice nonstandard measurement.
Doing some fun data analysis with gingerbread men!

I will be posting a January update in the next few days.  I will also be posting an update for Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop, and Word Work, lots of new things coming!!  Crossing my fingers for NO MORE snow days :)

So far behind!!

Hi parents and fellow bloggers!!

Our computer at home has been out of commission and I detest posting from my phone, so I've been MIA lately :(. However, the computer is still down and I'm giving in and making a phone post.  We have learned so much the past weeks, about bats, pumpkins, turkeys, and Pilgrims!!  We have been working hard to improve our reading and writing and many of us have begun to read, and write, simple sentences!!  Here are some snapshots if the past weeks :)

Sharing our first stories from Writer's Workshop!!

Sorting our jack-o-lanterns!!

Nonstandard weight measurement of pumpkins.

Identifying beginning sounds at centers.

Write the room with sight words.

Addition with spider rings.

Creepy counting!

+1 turkey addition.

Counting up using a double die.

Turkey race with beginning sounds.

Color words!!

Write the room with sight words.

Count the room during centers.

One-to-one correspondence with turkeys and "stuffing"

Turkey and fox greater than, less than :)

We had a great time sharing our disguised turkeys!!

We were so surprised to learn how different the lives of the Pilgrims were from our own!!

Phew!!  OK, all caught up and the computer SHOULD be fixed soon :). Look for another post after Thanksgiving!!

Finishing our farm unit by learning about cows! (And a freebie!!)

Last week we finished our farm unit by focusing our learning on cows, we had a great time!  We also worked really hard on our farm themed centers!

Our farm themed writing center.  This child was working on writing labels and will add a picture next!

Practicing 10 frames (we were rolling large foam dice to decide how many to color)

Working on 1-to-1 correspondence and also our fine motor skills!!  We were using a large tweezer to move the cotton balls onto the sheep :)

Teachers- these centers (and more!!) are available in my Fun on the Farm packet on TPT!

We began using this board to help keep track of the strategies we are working on, right now we are all using our "Eagles Eyes" to look at the picture to help figure out words we don't know!  (LOVE this packet from Deanna Jump)
This game was called MOO!  We were practicing quickly recalling our teen numbers by being the first to swat the cow that had the number we were looking for.

We watched a great video about milking cows this week and also turned a rubber glove filled with milk into an udder!!  Then we wrote these "How To" books explaining how to milk a cow.

We had a great time collecting leaves and making these rubbings in art!!

This was the video we watched, so interesting!!

And finally, as promised, for my teacher friends here is a Freebie from my Pretty Pumpkin Math and Literacy Centers. The entire packet is just $4.00 on TPT!!!
